CAMARITA REGENERATIVE CENTRE

CAMARITA REGENERATIVE CENTer, A PLACE TO LEARN AND TO GROW

Camarita is a 2 hectare piece of land kindly donated to AstilleroVerde in 2021 for purposes of land restoration. The land is an abandoned teak plantation, with a patch of secondary forest, located a 20 minute drive from AstilleroVerde. We are reforesting this land using an agroforestry system, to provide sustainable food and lumbar for SAILCARO INC., Camarita will be an active demonstration of our circular economy. We are grateful that the Canada Fund are supporting this initiative.

EDUCATION

At Camarita we are building an educational facility which will hold courses on a diverse range of topics from shipbuilding to permaculture. The courses will be aimed at people in our local community who face the biggest barriers to employment.

MERO VIVERO

We are building our biggest nursery ‘Vivero’ yet! The increased capacity at the Camarita site means we will aim to grow 100% of the saplings we plant in our TreesForSeas program. The nursery will also act as a seedbank to save, use and share heirloom and local seeds, helping to proliferate local genetics in the area.

AGROFORESTRY

This old teak plantation will be replanted using agroforestry techniques to develop a food forest. Agroforestry is a system where crops, lumbar and other tree species are grown together. The food produced in the food forest will be sold to SAILCARGO INC. to be used in the shipyard kitchen.
